Sarah Stewart Ware joined the faculty in 2009 as co-director of the Legal Research and Writing Program. She received her A.B. in government from Dartmouth College, and spent several years prior to law school at independent book publishers W. W. Norton & Company, where she edited popular nonfiction in the fields of economics, history and science.

Ware then earned her J.D. at Columbia Law School. She merged old and new careers as editor-in-chief of the Columbia Human Rights Law Review. Prior to joining the faculty at Virginia, she served as an assistant corporation counsel in the New York City Law Department’s Affirmative Litigation Division, which brings lawsuits on behalf of the city as plaintiff. Her litigation practice ranged from insurance claims, to constitutional and preemption matters, to a case involving tax, treaties and foreign sovereign immunities.
