Virginia Law Families
www.student.virginia.edu/~lawfams

This organization provides support to and promotes the interests of those students facing the challenges of attending law school while raising children. They promote social interaction and information sharing among interested persons, including both current and prospective parents. Issues of specific concern include child care, medical resources, and family activities or community events, with particular emphasis on low-cost options to help those on a tight budget. VLF also supports the law school admissions staff by encouraging individuals with families to apply for admissions and attend the University of Virginia School of Law and serving as an information resource for potential attendees.

Law Partners

Law Partners is a social networking group for couples connected with the Law School. It was designed to foster a sense of community among students and their significant others, to function as a support group, and to create networks to help facilitate a smooth transition into life in Charlottesville.

Tip

If you are arriving in Charlottesville with children, you have special concerns to think about. This site is designed to help your family adjust smoothly to life in Central Virginia. We have compiled a list of day care centers and private schools that have preschools or kindergartens. To learn more about local public schools, call Charlottesville Public Schools at 245-2400, or see www.ccs.k12.va.us, or call Albemarle County Schools at 296-5827 or see their site, www.albemarle.org.

Tip

"Charlottesville and Beyond: Great Outings With Children is a very useful guidebook to area attractions and events specifically focused on things to do with children. Well worth the $14.95 price. Available at several local book and toy stores, or via the internet. We got our copy at Shenanigans in the Barracks Road shopping center north annex (across Barracks Road from the main part of the shopping center)."
