A major trauma center, regional referral
center, and teaching hospital with many specialized and
general care clinics and medical departments, including
allergy, neurology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, otolaryngology,
pathology, behavioral medicine, urology, and plastic surgery.
Some physicians will accept patients only on referral from
outside doctors; others can be contacted directly. UVA

For students only, not family members,
who can still be treated at other facilities. General outpatient
medical care, including specialty services in gynecology
and mental health, to regularly enrolled students. When
necessary, Student Health will refer patients to physicians
in other specialties. No charge for office visits, but clients
must pay for lab work, medicine, and supplies. The staff
can help determine what type of payment needs to be made
at the time of visit and may send a copy of your insurance
information to Clinical Laboratories in the Medical Center
for insurance filing. If you don't want an insurance claim
filed, you may pay a discounted price at Student Health.

care including obstetrics and office surgery. Specializes
in handling family health problems and has both pediatricians
and general practitioners available for appointments.

A 181-bed private, not-for-profit hospital.
More than 200 physicians are affiliated with Martha Jefferson.
Family-centered maternity care, physical & occupational
therapy, outpatient surgery, Cancer Care Center, state-of-the-art
medical imaging (i.e., MRI and Ultrafast CT Scan), 24-hour
emergency department with "quick track" for less
serious conditions. Midwives on staff. Health Connection
offers classes in handling asthma, migraines, diabetes,
etc., and offers advice in choosing a physician connected
to Martha Jefferson. Martha Jefferson has several satellite
offices, the largest being Martha Jefferson Health Services
on Rt. 29 and the new Outpatient
Care Center on Pantops
Mountain.

If you need to take a child to an emergency room, the
UVA hospital has a separate pediatric ER (entered through the main
ER, check in at the window there) that is always well staffed with
very child-friendly folks.
