The Bayly
The Fralin Museum of Art

The Fralin Museum of Art at the University of Virginia
155 Rugby Road (just north of the Rotunda)
Tue-Sun 1 pm-5 pm

15th-20th century American and European paintings and sculpture, plus changing exhibits. Free.

Ruffin Hall Galleries

179 Culbreath Road
The recently constructed Ruffin Hall is home to several galleries, including a formal gallery on the third floor.
Mon-Fri 8 am-6 pm

Contemporary art, including works by faculty and fourth-year students.

Downtown Galleries
There are a number of art galleries downtown, including Chroma Projects Art Laboratory (Downtown Mall, 202-0269), C'ville Arts, the McGuffey Art Center (north of the Mall on Second St., 295-7973), and Mudhouse (coffeehouse on the Mall, 984-6833). At the City Center for Contemporary Arts (293-7552) you can find to the LiveArts theater group (977-4177) and Second Street Gallery (977-7284)



First Friday

First Friday is the monthly opening day for all local museums and galleries. The first Friday of the month, year-round, galleries open new exhibits and offer receptions and artist talks between about 5 and 9 pm. See specific gallery listings for exact hours. The University museum now offers a similar event on the fourth Friday of the month.
