Center for National Security Law to Co-Sponsor Conference on Media and the War on Terror I Schedule

"The Media and the War for the Fourth Freedom: Covering the War on Terror" will focus on the near-term military prospects from a national security viewpoint, a media assessment of the challenges anticipated in covering and reporting such events, and the appropriate balance between media access and the needs of national security in perilous times. To be held Jan. 16 in Washington, D.C. at the National Press Club, the event will feature keynote speaker Steve Roberts, an author, columnist, and television and radio commentator. The conference takes its title from a 1941 speech by President Franklin Delano Roosevelt in which he names the fourth freedom—freedom from fear—as an essential value in American democracy.

Reservations for the conference and lunch are required and can be made by calling (434) 295-4784, or by e-mailing freespch@tjcenter.org. A payment of $25 by cash or check will be accepted for the luncheon on the day of the conference.

The conference is the joint effort of the Center for National Security Law and the Charlottesville-based Thomas Jefferson Center for the Protection of Free Expression.
