Conference To Focus on Role of Government, NGOs in "War on Terror"
The legal standards that ought to guide the United States’ military operations and treatment of prisoners in the War on Terror will be examined at a one-day conference at the School of Law Nov. 5. Co-sponsored by the Human Rights Program and the Judge Advocate General’s Legal Center and School, the conference will discuss tensions between the views of the military and human rights organizations with two panels featuring government, military, and NGO representatives. Featured speakers include former U.S ambassador to the United Nations Nancy Soderberg, now with the International Crisis Group, and Elisa Massimino, the Washington Director of Human Rights First.
