Justice Breyer to Speak at Public Interest Law Conference | Schedule
U.S.
Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer will give the keynote address
at the Fifth Annual Conference
on Public Service and the Law at the
University of Virginia School of Law. The two-day, student–organized
symposium draws attorneys and government officials together to survey
the status of legal issues relating to social justice. The conference
will begin Friday evening Feb. 27 with workshops designed to help law
students find public service employment. Breyer will deliver the event's
keynote address Saturday, Feb. 28, at 4:30 p.m. in the Law School's
Caplin Auditorium.
The Conference features panel discussions on wide-ranging topics including
reformation of federal judicial appointments and the success of President
Bush's No Child Left Behind education program. Other panels will deal
with issues such as abortion litigation, the regulation of animals
used in research, and how to balance privacy interests and security
concerns after September 11. All panel discussions will take place
on Saturday, Feb. 28. Last year's conference drew more than 500 participants
from law schools across the eastern United States.
