Graduation Parking and Seating Information, Class of 2013
Parking: On Saturday and Sunday, parking will be available in the lots surrounding the Law School and at University Hall. Shuttle buses will operate between North Grounds and University Hall and between University Hall and the Lawn from early morning until after the Lawn Ceremony has ended.
The following lots will be available: D-2 (with the exception of the visitors' lot next to Slaughter Hall); D-3; the lots adjacent to the Superfield below the Law School; the JAG School lot; the S-1 lot in the housing area immediately across from the Law Grounds (but not the F-1 or F-2 lots in other areas of Copeley Hill); the Faulkner Dormitory lot; and the lots at University Hall. The Darden School ceremony will be held at approximately the same time as the Law School's, and no parking will be available in any of the Darden lots.
Guest Seating for the Lawn Ceremony: Your guests will need tickets for the University-wide Final Exercises on the Lawn, and each graduate will receive three tickets. There is also standing room available for any additional guests who wish to attend. If the weather is good, no tickets will be required for the Law School ceremony, and seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. However, in the event of severe or inclement weather, tickets will be required.
Bus Service: Starting at 8 a.m., the University will provide continuing bus shuttle service between University Hall and the Lawn, stopping on McCormick Road near the UVA Chapel. In the event of rain and the activation of rain site plans, bus service will be available between University Hall and Memorial Gymnasium. From 8 to 11 a.m. the University will also operate a continuous shuttle from the uphill side of Duffy Boulevard (west of the Darden gatehouse) to the UVA Lawn. Thus, graduates and guests can (1) park at U-Hall and use shuttle buses to travel to the Lawn or the North Grounds, or (2) park in the Law School area and use shuttle buses to get to the Lawn. At the end of the ceremony on the Lawn, graduates should go immediately from the Lawn to McCormick Road, and proceed toward the UVA Chapel. Most of the buses that are loading on McCormick near the Chapel will take you to the North Grounds by way of University Hall (you do not change buses at U-Hall; marshals will assist you). There is a large sign near the information tent at the UVA Chapel that states which buses depart for North Grounds. Talk to any transit staff in this area if you have any questions.
Handicapped Parking Permits: A limited number of handicapped parking permits will be available for use in the Law School visitors' lot by student guests. Please submit a request to Sherry Morris in the Career Services providing the basic facts (who needs it and why) if you require such a permit. Handicapped persons wishing to attend the Lawn Ceremony will have to park in University Hall or North Grounds and travel to the Lawn area by bus, or be dropped off in the handicapped unloading area near Garrett Hall (handicapped seating on the Lawn is near the drop-off point). The deadline for applying for permits to park in the Law School visitors' lot is Monday, May 7. Requests received after that date may not be approved. Special seating for handicapped persons and not more than one person accompanying each handicapped person will be provided for the Law School program in the Holcombe Green Lawn area.
Photography: Professional photographers will take pictures of each graduate as he/she receives his/her diploma and exits the stage at the Law School (the photographers will contact you by mail shortly afterwards).
Video of the Ceremony: A professional two-camera videorecording of the Law School ceremony is available to order on Blu-Ray or standard definition DVD.
