IMPORTANT NOTICE: The Judges Program will no longer be offered. If you have any questions, please contact the director, Professor Earl Dudley.
Many enduring friendships have emerged from what participants
view as two enjoyable summers in Charlottesville.
Judges in past classes have often been accompanied by their
spouses and children for part or all of the six-week session.
Many of the University apartments where the judges reside have
four bedrooms and are adequate for families. Because these apartments
are all in the same building complex, the judges and their families
have frequent informal social gatherings. A strong sense of
camaraderie has developed among the judges, their spouses, and
the law faculty. In short, a stimulating intellectual undertaking
combines with a gratifying and memorable interlude for judges
and their families.
Judges enrolled in the program have all the privileges and
services available to University students. Among these are student
health services, University shuttle buses, and athletic facilities
- indoor swimming pools, golf course, track and tennis, basketball,
handball, and squash courts. Arrangements can be made for families
to use these facilities also. University theater, film, and
musical events are available to participants and their families
throughout the summer.
Upon request, information will be sent in advance about summer
camps and other programs for children, summer courses available
at the University of Virginia and Piedmont Virginia Community
College, and other activities that may be of interest. Several
summer camps are available for younger children, but activities
for teenagers are limited.
