Although you may have existing qualifying coverage or may choose alternative qualifying coverage, information and enrollment instructions for the Aetna Student Health Plan, endorsed by the University of Virginia Student Health, can be accessed at www.virginia.edu/studenthealth/insurance.html or by calling UVA’s Aetna Student Health Customer Service Department at 1-800-466-3027. If you plan to purchase Aetna health insurance through UVA, your University identification number (UID) is required for the application process. Otherwise, there is no real need for you to obtain the number at this point in time. The UID will be printed on your student ID card after you arrive.
To obtain your unique UID, first obtain your UVA Computing ID and Netbadge password (more). With these, log into https://whois.virginia.edu/uid; authenticate with your UVA Student System ID Number (SIS Number) from the email you received from Jennifer Hulvey in Financial Aid, your last name, your date of birth (month/day/year), and your email address (try your primary email address from your application first; if that doesn’t work, try your new UVA email address, which you should have set up per recent e-mail instructions from Derek Leach in Law ITC); submit the request, and your UID will be displayed. If you need assistance with this, please email LawITC@virginia.edu. The plan year for new participants begins on Aug. 15, 2013. Please be advised, however, that students in the Schools of Law, Medicine, and Business do not qualify for the Graduate Student Health Insurance subsidy that you will see mentioned on the referenced websites.
