Reiner Schulze is a professor for civil law and history of law at the University of Münster in Germany. He is the co-editor of the Zeitschrift für Europäisches Privatrecht (ZEuP) and the Zeitschrift für Neuere Rechtsgeschichte (ZNR). He is member of the Academy of European private lawyers Pavia, member of the board of the Centre of Tort and Insurance Law, member of the network of excellence “Joint Network on European Private Law” (CoPECL) and director of the Centre for European Private Law (CEP). His research focuses on European business and consumer law, co-operative and franchise law, history of European private law and the acquis communautaire.
Schulze studied law and passed his first state exam in Berlin. He received his Ph.D. at the Johann-Wolfgang von Goethe University and passed the second state exam in Frankfurt. He worked as a professor at the law school of the University of Trier before he took his current position in Münster in 1994. He received the doctor honoris causae from the University of Miscolc, Hungary. In 2008 he was made honorary professor at Lancaster University, United Kingdom.
Schulze co-teaches European Union Law.
