    Vincent Blasi was appointed James Madison Distinguished Professor of Law in 2003. He joined the Law School after spending a year here as Ewald Visiting Professor, and from 1998-2003 he served as David Lurton Massee Jr. Professor of Law. A nationally renowned expert in First Amendment law, he teaches First Amendment Theory and Ideas of the First Amendment.

    Blasi also teaches at Columbia Law School, where he is the Corliss Lamont Professor of Civil Liberties. Before joining the Virginia and Columbia faculties, he taught at the University of Texas and the University of Michigan, and was a visiting professor at Stanford University, the University of California, Berkeley, and William & Mary. In 1998 Blasi was elected a fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
