John Calvin McCoid, II

As a law student at Vanderbilt, John McCoid was Editor-in-Chief of the Vanderbilt Law Review and Founder's Medalist. After law school he served on active duty for three years as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy. In 1956-57 he was a Teaching Fellow at Harvard Law School. He joined the Virginia faculty in the fall of 1957, principally teaching Civil Procedure, Insurance, Conflict of Laws, Bankruptcy, and Ethics until his retirement in 1994. He became the Armistead M. Dobie Professor in 1970 and the O.M. Vicars Professor in 1987. He was the Hunton & Williams Research Professor in 1990-92. During his Virginia tenure he was a visiting professor at Northwestern, Louisiana State University, Stanford, Ohio State, and Cornell and in 1990 the Frances Lewis Scholar in Residence at Washington and Lee. He is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and the Order of the Coif.
