Pierre-Hugues Verdier joined the faculty in 2009. He specializes in international law, financial regulation and the role of law in international economic relations. His current research focuses on the international regulation of banking and securities markets, with an emphasis on the reforms initiated in the wake of the global financial crisis. He is also working on an empirical project that examines the worldwide evolution of the law of foreign sovereign immunity for commercial activities, and its implications for current debates on customary international law.
After graduating from McGill University’s Faculty of Law in 2001, Verdier clerked for the Supreme Court of Canada and practiced corporate and financial law with Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton in New York City. He pursued graduate studies at Harvard Law School, where he was a John M. Olin Fellow in Law and Economics. Prior to joining the faculty, he also was affiliated with the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University and was a visiting assistant professor at Boston University School of Law.
