Course Description:
NOTE:
This course is taught at the JAG School during their 2nd quarter,
October 22, 2012 - December 21, 2012
. The instructor is MAJ Staten.
This elective provides students who have little or no military justice background or who need a refresher in military justice an opportunity to learn more about the military criminal legal system. We will explore, discuss, and analyze various criminal law topics, including but not limited to the following: Nonjudicial punishment (NJP), Types of Courts-Martial, Article 32a, UCMJ, hearings, Motions practice/Standards of Review, Voir Dire, Trial Practice, Post-Trial procedures, and appeals. Classes are conducted in a seminar format.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Classroom participation (40%) and written answers to three classroom discussion problems (60%)
