Course Description:
This course studies and evaluates the legal doctrines that regulate the family, focusing on the law surrounding intimate relationships between adults and relationships between parents and children. We will evaluate the legal effects of marriage, marriage’s changing scope and social and legal meanings, the state’s role in recognizing and supporting family formation, divorce and its financial consequences, how the law deals with conflicts over child custody and child support, and how the law determines parentage.
NOTE:
Laptops prohibited during class sessions.
