Course Description:

This course meets TR, 4-6 p.m. September 2-18 and September 23-October 9.

The first half of the course offers a comprehensive survey of the constitutional and legal structure of the European Union. After a brief historical introduction, the course will explore such fundamental structural features as sources and forms of European Union acts, the role of the Court of Justice and of fundamental rights, as well as current problems in European integration.

The second half the course will focus on economic aspects of the Basic Freedoms on the functioning of the European Union and secondary community law, including free movement pf worjres, capital, goods and services. The course focuses on the business law aspects – mergers, cartels etc. - and gives an in-depth view into a legal system structuring a Single Market of 28 countries and 506 million people. Recent developments on the Currency Union and the Euro will also be covered.
