Course Description:
This seminar introduces law students to the scientific study of violent crime, including the factors that give rise to violence and those that may account for the remarkable decline in violence in recent years in the United States. It then focuses on four specific topics in criminology: the relationship between violence and mental illness, including “sexually violent predators,” political violence (terrorism), violence in higher education, and violence committed by juveniles. Students will submit a research paper that may satisfy the upper-level writing requirement.
COURSE REQUIREMENT: A substantial research paper
This course is on the approved upper-level writing requirement course list.
