Course Description:

Immigration law covers important and complex questions. What criteria are used in determining who can come to the United States as an immigrant or visitor? When and why can noncitizens be forced to leave? What is the right balance between openness to outsiders and national security? What is the right balance between efficiency and fundamental due process rights? Answering these questions requires studying a wide variety of sources: statutes, regulations, administrative and federal cases, social science research, and legal scholarship. This course surveys the key constitutional law decisions in immigration law and provides and intensive introduction to the Immigration and Nationality Act, the statute governing federal immigration law.

NOTE: Laptops are not allowed during class sessions.
