Course Description:

This seminar is intended to expose students to the most fundamental and provocative doctrinal, analytical, empirical, and philosophical debates that scholars have faced over the past quarter century. To succeed in such an expansive undertaking, we will work from a recently published book, entitled, Criminal Law Conversations. The book consists of a number of scholarly essays and responses submitted by dozens of the most influential academics working in the fields of criminal law, procedure, and justice. Students will orally present and provide written responses to the dialogues in the text. In the process, they will learn about the most difficult questions that confront the academy today, and they will help to develop the difficult questions that it will have to confront tomorrow.
