Students will explore the development of Islamic law from its origins to the present. It will, in particular, consider how Islamic law has shaped the global Islamic finance industry. In addition to secondary works on Islamic law readings will include legal opinions (fatwas) issued by Muslim jurists as well as legal documentation produced for contemporary Islamic finance transactions.
