Course Description:

NOTE: This course is taught at the JAG School during their 3rd quarter, January 7, 2013 - March 15, 2013. The instructors are Mr. Clark and guest speakers.

This elective explores the preparation, investigation, presentation and defense of Child Sexual and Physical Abuse, but is not a trial advocacy course. Topics will include: Multi-disciplinary Teams and Child Advocacy Centers; offender behavior; interviews and child development; teen victims; use of experts; shaken-baby cases. Readings will, like the class, be both theoretical and practical in nature, and will precede discussion in each class. Guest speakers will be an integral part of the class. The class is accessible to all students, but presumes a base level of criminal law knowledge.

COURSE REQUIREMENT: Classroom participation, 3 short (3-4 page) written papers, and a take-home, open-book written examination.
PREREQUISITE: 2L and 3L students who have taken criminal law or have equivalent experience
