Course Description:

NOTE: This course is taught at the JAG School during their 3rd quarter, January 7, 2013 - March 15, 2013. The instructor is MAJ Gillman.

This elective provides an in-depth study of specific topics in the law of armed conflict (LOAC). Students will compare U.S and international perspectives on the LOAC, including hot areas like direct participation in hostilities, weapons reviews, collateral damage, and U.S. and international statutes and case law. The goal is to wrestle with the grey areas of the law.

COURSE REQUIREMENT: Evaluation will be based on a familiarization exam (collaboration permitted), a short (5-7 pages) written paper, a newspaper style opinion-editorial (op-ed) article, and class participation.
