Course Description:

Seminars in Ethical Values are designed to enhance students' understanding of ethical issues and address the broader ethical and moral responsibilities of the lawyer as citizen and leader. The seminars are graded on a pass/fail basis; students earn one credit in the spring semester upon successful completion of the seminar.

This year’s seminar will focus on works that challenge orthodox views about the relationship between humans and the natural world. Planned readings include Michael Pollan, The Botany of Desire; Stephen Pinker, The Blank Slate; J.L. Mackie, The Miracle of Theism; Jonathan Haidt, The Happiness Hypothesis; and Michael Pollan, The Omnivore’s Dilemma. Our discussions will work to draw connections among these works and to explore their implications for how one should live.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT: Attendance at all class sessions is expected
