Course Description:

Seminars in Ethical Values are designed to enhance students' understanding of ethical issues and address the broader ethical and moral responsibilities of the lawyer as citizen and leader. The seminars are graded on a pass/fail basis; students earn one credit in the spring semester upon successful completion of the seminar.

This seminar will explore recent efforts by behavioralist and empirical economists to explain, predict, and shape human decision-making. We will consider the potential and limits of these efforts, and ask whether we might draw new ideas about the law or our lives from these writings. Readings may include Ian Ayres, Super-Crunchers; Stephen Dubner & Steven Levitt, Freakonomics; Dan Ariely, Predictably Irrational; and Nudge, Cass Sunstein & Richard Thaler.

NOTE: We will meet from 1:00-3:30 p.m. on October 26, November 9, February 1, March 15, and March 29.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT: Attendance at all class sessions is expected
