Course Description:
This course will examine American constitutional and legal history from 1776 to 1865. Topics to be covered include the English backdrop, framing and ratification of the American Constitution, republicanism and law reform, jurisprudential changes of the early nineteenth century, slavery’s impact on legal development, and the impact of economic change on constitutional politics and constitutional law.
COURSE REQUIREMENT: Examination with a paper option.
NOTE:
Students seeking to satisfy the upper-level writing requirement must submit a completed
Writing Requirement Intent Form
to the Student Records Office no later than February 22, 2013.
