Course Description:

Seminars in Ethical Values are designed to enhance students' understanding of ethical issues and address the broader ethical and moral responsibilities of the lawyer as citizen and leader. The seminars are graded on a pass/fail basis; students earn one credit in the spring semester upon successful completion of the seminar.

Combining students in the medical and law schools, this seminar encourages students to recognize ethical conflicts that arise in professional and public life and to engage in critical reflection about their ethical responsibilities. This study of professional ethics will take place through discussion of literature and perhaps film. Discussion will include consideration of medical and legal ethics within the greater context of general ethical values

NOTE: We will meet five Thursday evenings 7-9:30 p.m. during the academic year. (Scheduling sessions to accommodate the schedules of both law and medical students can sometimes be challenging; in case of conflicts, we may consider Monday evenings as a back-up). Our first session will be held September 11.

ATTENDANCE REQUIREMENT: Attendance at all class sessions is required, although we recognize that sometimes unanticipated events prevent attendance. In such case, a very short reflection paper on the assigned reading may be completed.
