Course Description:
This course meets TWR, 4-6 p.m. September 11-20 and September 25-October 4.
This first half of the course meets September 11-20 and offers a comprehensive survey of the constitutional and legal structure of the European Union. After a brief historical introduction, the course will explore such fundamental structural features as sources and forms of European Union acts, the role of the Court of Justice and of fundamental rights, as well as current problems in European integration.
The second half of the course meets September 25-October 4 and will trace the development and effects of European Community Law on Private and Business Law. It will focus on economic aspects of the Basic Freedoms of EC treaty and secondary community law including free movement of workers, capital, goods, and services. It will deal with main issues of European Company Law and European Consumer Law, especially with respect to the current context of European Contract Law. The course will also examine the ongoing harmonization of private law in the European Union.
