Course Description:
This course is an introduction to the philosophy of law. In it we will investigate several theoretical questions relevant to the study and practice of law, including: What, if any, connection is there between law and morality? What is the nature of legal authority? And what, if anything, distinguishes legal reasoning from other forms of reasoning? We will also look at some recent philosophical analyses of private law, focusing on the law of torts.
COURSE REQUIREMENT: Three 6-7 page essays
