Amy (Saltzman) Walters joined Legal Aid Justice Center in 2014. Walters focuses on children’s legal issues and mental health law. Before joining the Justice Center, Walters was employed as a staff attorney and Skadden Fellow at the Maryland Disability Law Center where her work focused on the legal rights of youth with disabilities involved in the juvenile justice system. Walters provided legal representation, training, and advocacy in the areas of special education and children’s mental health. She earned her B.A. and her law degree from the University of Virginia. Prior to becoming an attorney, Walters conducted psychological research on females placed in Virginia’s Department of Juvenile Justice, taught dramatic empowerment in the Washington, D.C., public schools, and served as a court-appointed special advocate. She completed a clerkship in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia. She supervises students in the Child Advocacy and Health Law Clinics.
