Karen Schulder Rheuban is Medical Director of the Office of Telemedicine at the University of Virginia, Professor of Pediatrics (Cardiology), Clinical Professor in Nursing and Senior Associate Dean for Continuing Medical Education and External Affairs. The Office of Telemedicine links more than 60 healthcare facilities with the UVA Health System. She serves as president-elect of the American Telemedicine Association and as President of the Virginia Telehealth Network. She is a board member of the Center for Telehealth and E-Health Law. Dr. Rheuban has provided testimony related to telehealth before four Congressional committees and subcommittees. She has worked with the Federal Communications Commission on the Rural Healthcare Program and with Virginia Medicaid to expand telemedicine services in the Commonwealth and nationwide. In 2003, Rheuban was chosen for recognition in the exhibit, “Changing the Face of Medicine: Celebrating America’s Women Physicians” by the National Library of Medicine/National Institutes of Health. In 2005, she was awarded the University of Virginia Women’s Center’s “Elizabeth Zintl Leadership Award.”
