Matthew Owen, who co-teaches the fall short course Supreme Court Decisionmaking, is an associate in the national appellate practice of King & Spalding in Washington, D.C. Prior to joining the firm, he served as a law clerk to Justice Antonin Scalia of the Supreme Court of the United States; as a Bristow Fellow in the Office of the Solicitor General; and as a law clerk to Judge Neil M. Gorsuch of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit. Owen earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa, and his law degree, summa cum laude, from the University of Michigan Law School.
