David Baumgarten

David Baumgarten is an Associate with the law firm of Williams & Connolly LLP in Washington, D.C. Born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, he is a magna cum laude graduate of Princeton University (2006) and Harvard Law School (2010).

Baumgarten’s sports law experience includes recent representation of the U.S. Men’s National Soccer Team Players Association in a six-day AAA hearing and in ensuing confirmation proceedings in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. He previously worked on various transactional matters for NBA and WNBA players represented by Williams & Connolly. Beyond sports law matters, Baumgarten’s practice focuses on complex civil litigation, and has included several FINRA arbitrations, accounting malpractice defense, and securities litigation.

Baumgarten co-taught the Professional Sports & the Law course at the University of Virginia School of Law from 2012 to 2015, and was a teaching assistant for Harvard’s First-Year Legal Research and Writing Program during his second and third years of law school (coordinating the teaching assistant program during his third year).
