Assistant Dean for Public Service Annie Kim leads the Mortimer Caplin Public Service Center at the Law School.

As a student, Kim served on the boards of the Virginia Journal of Social Policy & the Law and the Asian Pacific American Law Students Association, and worked as a summer intern at the Fairfax County Public Defender’s Office. After graduation, she practiced commercial and school litigation at the McLean office of Hunton & Williams (1999-2001) and worked at a small firm in downtown Alexandria (2001-02).

For the next nine years Kim worked as in-house counsel for Virginia local governments. At the Henrico County Attorney’s Office (2002-07), she litigated tort, civil rights and employment cases and advised clients in the areas of public safety and employment law. At the Albemarle County Attorney’s Office, she represented an elected school board and school division, as well as the police, fire and rescue and human resources departments.

Kim has taught on the Virginia State Bar Professionalism Course faculty and has served on the board of governors for the Local Government Section of the Virginia State Bar, the board of the Charlottesville Albemarle Bar Association, and has been a member and leader of the Local Government Attorneys of Virginia.
