Disclaimer: Law School Mac users are not supported by the Law School, but the following information is provided, with no guarantees, for those who may wish to use it. If you use this and have success (or not) or suggestions for this help page, please let us know at lawitc@virginia.edu. Other Mac users may wish to know what your experiences were.
The Law School uses Windows NT/Active Directory authentication to authenticate users on its printer accounting system. Macs with OS X 10.2 and higher have the capability to use NT Authentication for printing (also known as SMB or CIFS) without additional software, but this is likely to be slightly technically challenging.
Your Mac must, of course, be connected to the Law network via either a working wireless or wired connection before you can set up printing. In order to be sure that you know the LawNT password needed for printing, be sure that you have successfully logged on in the Law school computer lab before proceeding with the printer addition.
