Research Assistant Printing Tips
Law School Research Assistants may submit research-related print jobs to the Help Desk for printing at the Law School's Copy Center so these jobs are not counted against their personal printing allotment. Below are some general tips for submitting such jobs.
- If job is quite a few pages from the web as web pages, cut/paste from Internet Explorer (works better than Netscape for this purpose) or "Save As" to file and then paste or import into Word. Submit Word file to Help Desk.
- If job is student-authored or pulled-together document, save as Word document and submit to Help Desk.
- If job is PDF or other file type found via the web, then submit the PDF or other file type. The Copy Center is equipped to read/print MS Office XP and earlier standard file types (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Access, etc) as well as Wordperfect and PDF. Submitting as one of these file types will ensure that getting your job printed will not be a painful process.
- Please specify the file type of your attachment in the comments section of the help ticket (e.g. "Please print the attached Word document.").
- Please specify the professor for whom you are working.
The Copy Center will contact you via email when your print job is ready for pick up.
NOTES: Please remember for large downloads of the kinds that are routinely done from Westlaw and Lexis databases, you should use the Westlaw/Lexis dedicated printers. The West and Lexis printers are accessible to students with a notebook and an ethernet connection (wired or wireless). If you need help routing your West or Lexis job from your notebook, please do not hesitate to contact the either library reference desk or Law ITC.
There is the simple trick of saving downloads to disk and then selectively printing or sending the file to the professor by email or delivering a diskette in person. We understand, however, that this method is not always an efficient way of managing the research.
