Reunion Weekend

EACH MAY THE Law School Alumni Association hosts Law Alumni Weekend (LAW) in Charlottesville. We asked the Alumni Association for some key facts about the weekend. We share them here, along with some photos of the weekend’s highlights.

1948

S. Eason Balch is counsel to the law firm of Balch & Bingham, which he joined as an associate in March 1948 when it was known as Martin, Turner, & McWhorter in Birmingham, Ala. There were 10 other lawyers in the firm when he became an associate. The firm now has more than 250 lawyers with offices in Birmingham and Montgomery, Ala., Atlanta, Ga., Gulfport and Jackson, Miss., and Washington, D.C.

1950

Edward M. Selfe is ranked number three in the United States for Men’s 85 and older singles by the U.S. Tennis Association for 2007.

1957

John Corse and his wife, Muffet, sent a special letter of thanks to all of their classmates and friends from the “wonderful Class of 1957” upon the occasion of John stepping down as class manager after years of record-breaking achievements for the class. The couple was awed by the recognition from their friends. John and Muffet look forward to continued “laughing and sharing heartwarming reunions” both in Charlottesville and wherever their friends may gather.

Janet Rowe Dugan has enjoyed spending time with Law School friends and classmates recently. She shared dinner with Barbara Coppeto ’58, attended a pool party with Frank Norton ’58, and played golf with Buzzy Wilkinson ’62. She’s still trying to convince Janet Lauck Blakeman to visit her in Florida.

Murray Falk has been appointed an administrative law judge for the Arizona Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Division. He will serve in several offices throughout the state. Falk practiced law in the Los Angeles, Calif., area for 20 years before moving to Arizona in 2002. He served as an Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Massachusetts during the Kennedy administration and later as a Special Trial Judge of the United States Tax Court after practicing tax law in New York City and Boston. He is a veteran of the Korean War and was awarded the Bronze Star for his service as an artillery officer in the 3d United States Infantry Division in that conflict. A native of Massachusetts, he is married to Margie Karsh, formerly of Denver.

Joseph Hilton is a senior managing director at Grubb & Ellis and member of a team that focuses on doing business with China.

Capt. Ferdinand L. Salomon, USN (Ret.), writes that his grandson, Christopher L. Salomon, received his “Wings of Gold” as a naval aviator in March and will fl y a Seahawk Helicopter out of San Diego, Calif. Chris is a fourth generation naval officer. Salomon is officially retired from the practice of law and enjoys golf, trap shooting, riding his Harley Davidson, and traveling.

1959

After 27 happy years of living and sailing on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Harwood Martin has moved back to Washington, D.C. He remains very involved with the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary.
