Virginia Law Families

This organization provides support to and promotes the interests of those students facing the challenges of attending law school while raising children. The group promotes social interaction and information sharing among interested persons, including both current and prospective parents. Issues of specific concern include child care, medical resources, and family activities or community events, with particular emphasis on low-cost options to help those on a tight budget. VLF also supports the law school admissions staff by encouraging individuals with families to apply for admissions and attend the University of Virginia School of Law and by serving as an information resource for potential attendees.

UVA Dean of Students

The Office of the Dean of Students offers general assistance to students on questions related to student life.

Charlottesville Family

This local weekly website and print magazine is dedicated to making parenting easier and growing up fun for families in the Charlottesville-Albemarle area. It includes a calendar of family-friendly events, feature articles on parenting, resource guides on everything from having a baby to going fishing, discussion forums, school information, daytrip ideas and party-planning information.

UVA Women's Center

The Women's Center babysitter list is updated each fall and spring semester and can either be mailed or picked up. Recipients of the list are supplied with the following information on each sitter—phone numbers, foreign languages spoken, hobbies and interests, whether they have their own transportation, age preferences, hours of availability and child-care experience. The center does not conduct screening interviews or background checks on any babysitter listed, and it is the responsibility of the parents to negotiate terms and pay rates.

International Studies Family Handbook
