Course Description

This course examines issues ranging from food and drug regulation, clinical trials, assisted reproductive technology, telemedicine, and stem cell development/regulation to the commercialization of the human body. The course examines ethics, socioeconomics, and market demands for technologies, exploring whether the various issues emerging from biotechnological conflicts are best resolved by regulation, judicial intervention or private negotiation.

Written Work Product

Students will be required to submit a substantial research paper via EXPO no later than noon on December 18, 2024 (the day before the last day of the finals period). A substantial research paper is the standard necessary to satisfy the Upper-Level Writing Requirement (see Academic Policy I.M), so a form signed by the instructor with special permission to make the paper compliant with the Upper-level Writing Requirement is NOT required.
