Course Description

This class offers an interdisciplinary introduction to the thriving field of comparative constitutional law. We will cover the basics of how constitutions are created, revised, interpreted, and enforced. Topics will include design of government institutions, federalism, judicial review, constitutional amendment rules, and constitutional rights. We will cover a range of foreign jurisdictions throughout the West, Asia, and the Global South, such as China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Africa, Columbia, India, Ecuador, Hungary, and Turkey.

Exam Information

Final Type (if any): Flex with Paper Option

Description: A Flex exam will be required at the end of the semester, but students will have the option of submitting a paper in lieu of the Flex exam. Students opting to submit a paper in lieu of the Flex exam must submit the paper via EXPO before noon on May 9th (the day before the last day of the exam period).

Written Work Product

Students have the option of submitting a paper in lieu of a Flex exam. Students opting to submit a paper must do so via EXPO by noon on the last day of the final exam period. In accordance with Academic Policy I.M, students intending to use the final paper for their Upper-Level Writing Requirement must submit the "special request" form to SRO (available via LawWeb) by Feb. 27, 2023.
