Course Description

This short course examines how law enables, manifests, and resists authoritarian forces, and explores how the kind of legality found in authoritarian jurisdictions should be characterized. The course will guide students to reflect on the nature of law, the meaning of such concepts as the rule of law and rule by law, and the relationship of these concepts with liberal democracy.

Students will receive a paper prompt (with questions based on the course materials) during the last class session and will be required to upload their paper (total word count 2500-3000 words) to EXPO by noon on April 11, 2025.
