Course Description

This course examines some of the current law and policy debates that are shaping education in the United States. The course focuses on systemic issues that determine or influence the foundation and structure of public education today. It emphasizes issues of educational opportunity and inequality, such as race and sex discrimination, school finance and school choice. The course also explores the role of the government in American education. Students will analyze both current law and policy and how law and policy should be reformed to achieve the goals of the education system. Our focus will be on education within the K-12 system.
