Course Description

This is the first semester of a yearlong seminar designed to enhance students' understanding of ethical issues and address the broader ethical and moral responsibilities of the lawyer as citizen and leader. In this seminar in ethical values (known as “the Seminar of Ice and Fire”) we will explore the law of Game of Thrones. Topics include the Constitution of Westeros, democracy within the Night’s Watch, whether and how there can be order without law, climate change and the white walkers, transitional justice in Meereen, the law and morality of Daenerys’s attack on King’s Landing and her other actions, and others. Familiarity with the world of Westeros is assumed (either based on the show or the books).
