Course Description

This skills course introduces students to key international law and standards related to corporate social responsibility and business and human rights. It also explores the global governance structures through which these norms develop, including treaties, multi-stakeholder initiatives, and industry-led initiatives. The course will touch on topics such as community and indigenous rights, privacy and freedom of expression, and labor rights, as affected by business. It will help students consider the roles of different stakeholders, including NGOs, investors, and legal counsel at companies.

Description: A take-home exam will be distributed in a sealed envelope on the last day of class. Students will be on their honor to use only the stated amount of time to complete their answers to the exam questions upon opening the envelope, and to then submit their answer document via EXPO. The deadline to upload to EXPO will be announced, but it will be no later than noon two weeks after the last class session.

Prerequisites: Recommended (but not required) prerequisites include Corporations, International Human Rights Law, or International Law.
