Course Description

This course will examine selected areas of professional responsibility, including the creation and termination of the attorney-client relationship, the scope of representation, conflicts of interests, confidentiality, and the attorney's ethical obligations during litigation. In addition, the course will address the attorney's relationships with the courts, the organized bar, and the community.

Course Notes: This class will meet entirely online. Class will take place synchronously via Zoom. Any additional remote learning details from the instructor will be posted to the course's Canvas page at a later date. This course satisfies the professional ethics course requirement for those seeking Virginia third-year practice certification. Grading: Students will be assessed based on class participation and weekly assessments. The lowest single assessment score will be dropped. For class participation, each week, one member of the group will be designated "on call" in discussions.
