Course Description
This class provides an overview of the constitutional law of government expropriation of private property. In addition to modern Supreme Court regulatory takings and eminent domain doctrine, we will explore the topic from theoretical and historical perspectives. The class will address the scope of the government’s police powers in times of emergency and the constitutional limits on government power. The class will be rooted in history and yet up to the moment, and we will explore issues ranging from the Revolutionary War to the Covid-19 crisis.

Written Work Product: A 2500-3000 word paper will be due via EXPO no later than noon two weeks after the last class session.
