Course Description

This seminar examines the role of markets in promoting (or inhibiting) the full participation of women in society. Topics covered include freedom of contract; property rights; labor market access and occupational licensing; sales of ova and embryos; surrogacy services; sex work; societal expectations of generosity and self-interest; women's lives under socialism and communism; and women as entrepreneurs and managers.

Written Work Product: Students will have the option of writing a substantial research paper (which may satisfy the upper-level writing requirement if timely form submitted to SRO), or three short papers. Students seeking to satisfy the upper-level writing requirement must submit a timely Writing Requirement Intent Form to the Student Records Office - retroactive exceptions will not be granted.
