Course Description
The course provides an introduction to the law of torts. A tort is a legally recognized, non-contract-based wrong or injury. In essence, torts law regulates private risk-taking behavior by determining who bears the financial costs of actions that harm others. The first part of the course examines the fundamental elements of torts generally – duty, breach, causation, and damages – and then covers defenses. We will also study the primary specific tort claims, such as battery, medical malpractice, defamation, products liability, and constitutional torts.
