The 14th Annual “Live From L”

U.S. State Department Staff Discuss the Role of the Advisory Opinions of the International Court of Justice
Tuesday, November 12, 2024 12:15 - Tuesday, November 12, 2024 13:15

At this year’s “Live From L,” State Department officials will discuss the advisory jurisdiction of the International Court of Justice, which allows the U.N. General Assembly, U.N. Security Council, and other U.N. organs and specialized agencies to refer legal questions to the ICJ.

The panelists will discuss the history of the ICJ's advisory jurisdiction, considerations the United States and other U.N. member states take into account when deciding whether to provide views in advisory proceedings, and recent proceedings of note.

Time permitting, audience members will be given the opportunity to ask questions at the end of the event.

Lunch will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis starting at noon.
