Heinz-Dietrich Steinmeyer

Heinz-Dietrich Steinmeyer is a professor for Civil Law, Labor Law, and Social Security Law at the University of Münster in Germany. He served as an expert for the European Commission on social security and supplementary pensions and has been a pension consultant in a number of European countries as well as in Latin America. His research focuses on social security, labor law, European law and comparative studies.

Steinmeyer is chairman of the European Network for Research on Supplementary Pensions and a member of the board of the German-American Lawyer's Association. He studied law at the University of Bonn with his first state exam in Cologne. He received his doctor juris at the Free University of Berlin School of Law and passed the second state exam in Berlin. He worked as a professor at the law schools of the University of Augsburg and of Hagen — where he served as a dean — before he took his current position in Münster in 1994. At the University of Münster he served as dean from 2008 to 2010.
